Inspired by the art nouveau movement of the early 1900s, this poster features bold outlines, ornate typography, expressive poses, and a woman as the focal point.
Typically, the women featured in traditional art nouveau posters were fair-skinned and had long flowing hair used as additional ornamentation in the design, all confined in a box. The dark-skinned woman featured in my poster flaunts a large, striking afro as she kicks through the boundaries of traditional art nouveau.
‘International Women’s Day’ was selected for the Mercedes Benz ‘Experiencing Perspectives’ art exhibition and published in 2017.
